Just a Short Note

I've only got a few minutes, here from an Intenet cafe. We drove up to Clifden on Friday, and got to our accomodation at 9pm. I slept like a log, woke up and thought "wow, what a great night of sleep". Then I checked my watch, and it was only 3:27am! It took me nearly an hour to fall back asleep, but I managed to sleep until 7:30. I hope I'll be able to sleep tonight, cause I'm already a bag of nerves.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, I'll try and not let you down. I don't know how long it will take to find a computer after the race; you might have to wait until Monday night.

The weather is gorgeous; I don't know if I should wear a t-shirt or a singlet, and my brain is unable to come to a rational conclusion.

Signing out, shaking like a leaf in anticipation.

  1. Enjoy yourself, feel the excitement but most importantly, relax! You’ve done the work, you said so yourself (10 runs > 20 miles, 7 weeks > 80miles with 2 PRs on the way).

Come race day, a) start at the pace you want to finish at, and something an old coach told me regarding endurance events, b) imagine yourself a lonely snowflake being battered around by the wind and landing atop a huge mountain. You sit there for a few minutes in anticipation, are you going to be blown off? No, you bump into the snowflake next to you, forming a snow cluster, then the wind nudges you and you start to roll. Over the length of the race you gather speed, tumbling down the mountain, changing from a mere snowflake into an all powerful avalanche of speed, power and determination… I’m afraid I’ve said to much (you get the picture).

P.s. If you’re guaranteed good weather, I’d go with the singlet.

  12. What a run Thomas that is so incredibly awesome. I did my first half marathon distance on Sunday in a training run in 2:52:46 and feel like such a turtle in comparison. But now I know I can finish the half marathon that I have my sights set on that is coming up April 29. Stop by and check out my slow blog *S*....great run again.....
